Lightning protection systems installed in trees are designed to protect large, old, valuable, historic/heritage trees in Texas. Lightning is grounded by utilizing copper conductors that extend from the top of the tree, through the main branches and trunk and out beyond the root zone.

Other trees that warrant protection are trees within a structure and those alone in a landscape, park or golf course (anywhere people tend to congregate).

Note: The Texas Forest Service publishes a list of the largest trees in Texas. “The Texas Big Tree Registry”. Trees come and go on the list. One reason trees are replaced is because of storm damage (lightning).

Tree Myth: Lightning does not strike in the same place twice.
Fact: Some trees have a history of strikes.
