ORNAMENTAL TREES
Ornamental trees are grown for the purpose of accent in a landscape. They add significant value to the property especially if planted the right way. They add texture, layering and color to your landscape.
A few examples of small ornamental trees that are native to our area of North Texas are:
- Mexican Plum
- Mexican Buckeye
- Viburnum
- Rough Leaf Dogwood
- Eves Necklace
- Red Bud
Then there are trees that are native to Texas but just slightly out of our geographic range:
- Mountain Laurel
- Texas Persimmon
- Big Tooth Maple
- Desert Willow
- Dogwood
- Tree of Senna
Finally, the exotics such as:
- Japanese Maple
- Bird of Paradise
- Vitex
- Chinese Pistache
Homeowners can successfully culture some or all of these in their landscapes as long as they have educated themselves with the knowledge of what is to be expected.
